Privacy, in plain language

What we collect on this site, why we collect it, and what we never do. If anything here is unclear, email us and a person will answer.

The short version

  • No accounts, no ad trackers, no selling data. Ever.
  • We use Google Analytics to see which pages and free tools actually help people.
  • Numbers you type into our calculators — premiums, crew sizes, earnings — stay in your browser. We never receive them.
  • If you select a business in the WSIB Safety Check lookup, we record which business was selected (information that's already public) so we know which trades and regions our tools serve.
  • Email us and we use your address to reply. That's it.

What we collect, and why

Site analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through our own first-party script. It tells us which pages are visited, which links and downloads are clicked, the rough (city-level) location visits come from, and the type of device and browser used. We use this to decide what to build and write next. We don't see your IP address in our reports, and we don't use analytics data for advertising.

The WSIB rebate calculator

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter — your premium, crew size, average earnings — are never sent to us. Our analytics records only that the calculator was used: how many topics were selected, and whether the premium was typed in or estimated. Never the dollar amounts.

If you use the "Request a pilot conversation" button, it opens a draft email in your own mail app that includes your estimate. You can edit or delete anything in it before deciding to send.

The "Find your business" lookup

The business search talks directly from your browser to the WSIB's public Safety Check service — the same public record anyone can search there. If you select a business, we record which business was selected along with its public attributes (size band, rate class, Excellence Program status) in our analytics. We use this to understand which trades and regions find our tools useful, and to guide where we focus our work. We can't tell who did a lookup — only that one happened.

When you contact us

If you email us or request a pilot conversation, we get whatever you choose to send — typically your name, email address, company, and message. We use it to respond and to follow up about Dashpot. We don't add you to any mailing list without asking first.

Cookies, retention, and sharing

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies (names starting with _ga) to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. The site works fine with cookies blocked — every page, calculator, and download still works. You can block cookies in your browser settings or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.

How long we keep things

Analytics data is retained for 14 months, then deleted automatically. Email correspondence is kept as long as we need it to work with you.

Who else sees data

Google processes our analytics and hosts this site (Firebase), and like any web host keeps standard server request logs; data may be processed outside Canada. No one else. We never sell, rent, or trade any information collected on this site.

Your rights, and reaching us

We're an Ontario business and handle information under Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA). You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — email jyoung@dashpot.ca and we'll respond promptly. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top of the page.
